How can I retrieve an HTML email template from Google Docs to preserve formatting?

Hi! I am building an AI agent that sends emails using a pre-written template retrieved from Google Docs. The template contains variables such as [first name] and [Business name] which are stored in a Google Sheet.

I’ve noticed that when the email is sent, the formatting (bold, italics, spacing, and line breaks) doesn’t come through as expected. I suspect that retrieving the template as an HTML document could solve the issue, but I’m not sure how to do that.

Can someone explain the process to retrieve and use an HTML email template with preserved formatting? Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated.
