Why is my AI Agent workflow reporting an insufficient quota error despite available free quota?

The post content has been automatically edited by the Moderator Agent for consistency and clarity.

Hey,

I’m running a simple workflow where an AI Agent summarizes an email. However, I keep getting an insufficient quota error, even though my account shows enough free quota.

Has anyone encountered this issue or know what might be causing it?

Below is a list of steps you can take to troubleshoot an insufficient quota error when using the AI Agent node with the OpenAI integration:

Check API Credentials and Organization

  • Ensure that the OpenAI API key entered in your n8n credentials is valid and belongs to the account showing free quota.
  • Verify that the correct organization is selected in the upper-left corner of your OpenAI settings.

Verify Project and Usage Limits

  • Double-check that you’re using the appropriate project within your OpenAI account.
  • Review the usage limits for both your organization and project. Sometimes, free quota might be available for certain API calls, but there could be per-minute or per-day limits in place.

Consider API Response Delays

  • There might be a delay between when you top up credits (or when a trial resets) and when the updated balance is reflected in API calls. This could cause temporary insufficient quota errors.

Following these steps should help you resolve the error. If the issue continues after verifying your credentials, organization, and usage settings, you might want to check OpenAI’s status page to rule out any service-related issues.
