Why is my OpenAI account labeled as deleted or deactivated despite my subscription?

I lost access to my account last week and now receive this error when trying to log in:

Oops!

You do not have an account because it has been deleted or deactivated. If you believe this was an error, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.

I’ve been paying for my subscription for about 8 months, and suddenly I can't log in. Customer service has largely been unresponsive, only mentioning once that my account was flagged as suspicious. I feel scammed, as I'm paying for a service I am not receiving. I intended to use their API for my business, but now I’m concerned that the service could be down for weeks with no proper support. As a result, I'm considering switching to an alternative provider.

Any insights or advice on resolving this issue would be appreciated.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. While I can’t access or modify account details, here are a few suggestions based on our guidance:

  • Reach Out via Help Center:
The error message you received advises contacting the help center at help.openai.com for account issues. If you haven’t already, please file another detailed request there and include any relevant information (e.g., your account email, billing details, and the message you received).

  • Account Verification Process:
Sometimes accounts may be flagged as suspicious for security reasons. Make sure to check your email (including spam folders) for any communications from OpenAI that might provide additional steps to verify your account.

  • Follow-Up on Your Request:
If support hasn’t responded fully, consider providing any new details or clarifications in your follow-up message. Keeping records of your subscription and previous communications may help expedite the resolution process.

  • Alternative Arrangements:
If your business depends on timely API access, you might want to explore backup solutions or alternative providers in the meantime. However, please note that most issues like these are resolution-based rather than permanent.

Keep in mind that these recommendations are based on the publicly available support guidelines. For account-specific investigations, only our official support channels can look into your case further.

I hope this helps, and that your issue is resolved soon.
