Are files uploaded via v1/files used for training?

Hello.

I uploaded a file using “v1 files”.

Can OpenAI use this file for training its models? I want to ensure that internal company files remain private and are not used for model training.

Thanks.

Answer:
No, uploaded files via the v1/files endpoint are not automatically used for training OpenAI's general models. Files are stored and utilized solely for the specific features you request (such as fine-tuning, Assistants, or the Batch API). They will not be incorporated into any training dataset for model improvement unless you explicitly use them for a task like fine-tuning.

If you are concerned about confidentiality, you can take additional precautions (for example, removing files you no longer need) to ensure that your internal documents remain private.

For the most up-to-date information, please refer to the latest API documentation and data usage policies provided by OpenAI.
