Hi
I’ve been experimenting with various image-to-text models and was particularly impressed by ChatGPT's image description feature. After yesterday’s keynote hinted at upcoming API support and checking the current documentation, I couldn’t find any reference to it.
Did I overlook something or is this feature not yet available in the API?

Answer:
The keynote announcement did highlight new vision capabilities for the GPT‑4o series at DevDay, such as the ability to fine‑tune models with image and text inputs to improve their vision skills. However, a dedicated image description feature—like the one available in ChatGPT's interface—is not yet exposed as a standalone endpoint in the API.
For now, while the API does support image fine‑tuning (which can be used to enhance a model’s overall vision capabilities), the direct image-to-text conversion functionality seen in ChatGPT is not available via the API. We recommend keeping an eye on the changelog for any future updates that might introduce native image description endpoints.
