My API key is missing from the dashboard. When I click on the “view API Keys” option, no key is displayed.
A few hours ago, my app was working normally. Has OpenAI removed keys without notice, or could there be another explanation?
I haven’t made any changes that would delete or revoke the key. Any insights or troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Troubleshooting Missing API Keys
There is no mechanism in the OpenAI API for keys to be removed automatically without notice. Here are some troubleshooting steps you might consider:
Organization/Project Context:
Ensure you’re viewing your keys under the correct organization and/or project in your OpenAI dashboard. If you have multiple organizations, the key might be associated with one other than the one you’re currently viewing.
Accidental Deletion or Revocation:
It’s possible that the key was manually revoked or deleted, either by you or by someone with access to your account. Check with your team if applicable.
Security Notifications:
If OpenAI detects unusual activity or a security issue, a key might be revoked for your protection. Check your email (including spam/junk folders) for any notifications from OpenAI.
Contact Support:
If you can’t determine the cause after checking these points, it’s best to reach out to OpenAI support for further assistance, as they can provide details specific to your account’s situation.
Remember, API keys are secret and should be securely stored. For production environments, keys should be loaded from secure storage (like environment variables or a key management service) and never exposed in client-side code.
